This caddy is a reproduction of an original English thread stand from the late Regency period, about 1820, a time during which the thread would likely have been silk. It was developed from images of the original seen on the BBC America TV program, Bargain Hunt (third photograph); David Barby, the British antiques expert in the episode described it as a "bobbin retainer". It has two velvet pincushions, one at the top of the center post and one around the perimeter of the deck that holds the thread spools. The deck is 6" in diameter and revolves, and the overall height of the caddy is 9". The triangular base is the only part that is not lathe turned; it is fitted with fixed barrel-shaped feet at the extremities and "acorns" of varied sizes to hold thimbles.

The caddy is made of walnut and is finished with a stain that will prevent the wood from being bleached by light over time. If requested the stain can be omitted, and the walnut will gradually (5-10 years) lose its dark color and look more like the original antique.
